A writer for the daily newspaper asserted this week that “Clayton condos are hotter than downtown lofts.”
Since 2001, 2,197 condos have been built in Downtown St. Louis in historic buildings that once served as garment and shoe factories, commodities exchanges, showrooms, storage centers, and warehouses. Many of them have used the state and federal tax credits available to undertake the careful and expensive conversions of historic commercial structures into mixed-use buildings that preserve the authenticity of the district. Dozens of other condos have also been built in other City neighborhoods.
During the same time period, 371 condos were built in all of Clayton — many of them in the same newly constructed building.
Where’s hot?
