Wells-Goodfellow

The Wells-Goodfellow area on the City’s northwest boundary is a neighborhood of opportunity. Much of the area still reflects the influence of the massive General Motors plant which once operated there: lots of small businesses, blocks of modest shot-gun style homes for workers, plenty of churches — and many vacant structures and lots. Stimulating new investment there and rebuilding its residential population are top priorities of City development officials and the 22nd Ward’s alderman, Jeffrey Boyd.

There are two new projects in the 22nd ward to report:

•The Land Reutilization Authority recently approved the sale of 5101 Farlin to the Travers Group. This industrial site, a long-standing vacant building in LRA’s inventory, will be redeveloped for industrial use.

•Also, Michael Jones Enterprises recently completed the setting and finishing of two two-story modular homes. Assisted by Alderman Boyd and the Community Development Administration, each home features 1,700 sq. ft., 3 bedrooms, two baths, a full basement and a detached 2-car garage. The developer is also excavating three more foundations, for units expected to be delivered by Contempri Homes of Pinckneyville, Illinois, in September.
