Vince Bommarito has resigned from the Board of Police Commissioners. Nothing I learned in the time leading up to his resignation taught me anything new about him. He was ' and remains ' a passionate and generous person with a compelling love of his family. That he answered the call to serve on the Police Board in the first place is testimony to his sense of public service. That he resigned following the controversy which he had engendered at police headquarters shows his loyalty to the department and his love of the City.

Gov. Jay Nixon now has a double challenge: to fill two seats on the Police Board, knowing that a bill that could return the department to local control after 150 years could be headed to his desk.
