Transportation Funding

A group of Missouri legislators is floating the idea of increasing the statewide sales tax by a full cent to fund the reconstruction of parts of Interstates 44 and 70. Bill Stouffer, chairman of the state Senate Transportation Committee, says that it is time for residents to speak out on the subject.

He’s correct: the State of Missouri must address transportation funding.

I agree that portions of the two highways need to be rebuilt. But, we also need to fund a new Mississippi River bridge and mass transit.
