Strassenfest

The organizers of Strassenfest, a venerable local summer festival, have announced that they will not stage it this year. They cited stiff competition from downtown’s free Live on the Levee music festival as the reason.

I will not miss the annual opportunity to decline being photographed in lederhosen; I will miss the beer and wurst.

I hope that the festival’s officials and supporters will soon find a new venue and neighborhood in which to celebrate our City’s strong German heritage.
