What happened yesterday at the Workhouse was either incompetent or crooked. Either way, I want an outside perspective on what went wrong and what can be done to keep it from happening again.

So, I have asked George Lombardi, the director of the Missouri Department of Corrections, to investigate yesterday's incident, review security at the facility, and give us advice on the types of inmates who should be there and who should not.

George has agreed.

Gene Stubblefield, the City's corrections commissioner, used to work for George. He told me he looks forward to George's help.

Because this is not George's day job, I did set a timetable for him to finish. However,he will begin tomorrow.
