SLPS Town Hall Scheduled

For the past couple of years, Superintendent Kelvin Adams and members of the Special Administrative Board have working with state officials and the City; and with parents, teachers, and students of the St. Louis Public School District to move towards re-accreditation.

There have been successes, academic achievements, and setbacks. Along the way, City voters, with my endorsement, passed a $155 million bond issue to improve the schools' faciliies.

On Saturday, October 16, District and state education officials will meet at Vashon High School at 10 am (breakfast at 9 am) to update St. Louis on the SLPS. The special "State of the District" will be a town hall-style event, and is scheduled to include the superintendent, DESE, the SAB, representatives of AFT Local St. Louis 420, and Cooperating School District director John Urkevich. Organizers have told me that you will have a chance to ask questions, get answers.

There are plenty of misunderstandings about the SLPS, and many good stories that have gone untold. There are things you have written to me that need to be said out loud to the people who actually are responsible for the District.
