In 2005, Forbes magazine ranked the St. Louis region as #62 out of 150 metro areas as a ‘great place for business and careers.’

This year, the St. Louis region (pop. 2.8 million) moved up to #47 out of 200 metro areas ranked.

That’s good news.

Our jump was fueled by great universities (8th), reasonable costs of doing business (27th), and strong cultural and leisure activities (39th). But, we were held back from ranking even higher overall by lower 50 percent ratings in income and job growth.

We certainly know what the region needs to do better.
