A caller asked I mention that Phil the Gorilla, who lived in the Ape House of the St. Louis Zoo for years, passed away on this day in 1958. Most St. Louisans my age or older know the name and remember Phil. He was a visitor favorite for his playful manners; and remarkable for his huge size.
