According to the historians (and to MayorSlay.com staffer Janie P), this coming week will mark the 100th anniversary of football’s forward pass. The first documented spiral was thrown on September 5, 1906, by Saint Louis University player Bradbury Robinson and dropped by one of his teammates in a game against Carroll College. Robinson also threw the first documented completion in the same game, a 20 yard strike for a touchdown.

It is not reported anywhere whether SLU coach Eddie Cochems took his squad, which whacked Carroll, 22-0, out for ice cream cones (another novelty with St. Louis roots) after the victory.
