New Course Adds Up

I cannot think of many jobs that don't require some basic math skills. So, a city resident who lacks such skills is probably not job-ready nor particularly likely to be hired. A recent report suggested that a majority of city residents who failed the standardized basic skills test required by the state were particularly challenged by the test's Applied Math section.

The St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE) plans to help hundreds of city residents become math literate and more confident in their skills by offering an adult education program early next year called "Math, Math, and More Math!" The program will be a collaborative partnership between SLATE and St. Louis Public Schools Adult Education and Literacy (SLPS AEL). This course, which begins on January 11, will address the academic needs of both SLATE clients and AEL students.

I.
