In its long and colorful history, the Mullanphy Emigrant Home at 1609 N. Fourteenth Street has been a dorm for indigent immigrants to St. Louis, a school, and the home of a company. It has also been altered, expanded, abandoned, and severely damaged.

Today, though, it is a civic project.

After it became apparent that its owner could not restore — or, even, preserve — this landmark, my staff worked to make it available to savvy people who could. The Building Division and Cultural Resources Office worked together to make sure that the building did not get demolished, and SLDC staff worked with the Old North St. Louis Restoration Group and the building’s owners to facilitate a trade of LRA property to the owner so that ONSLRG could obtain ownership of the Emigrant Home.

Now, it’s your turn. The building needs expensive emergency stabilization and repair work to keep it from collapsing this winter. And ONSLRG needs your financial assistance to help pay for that work.
