Regular readers know of my strong interest in improving news coverage — getting more and more contextual coverage — of what’s going on in St. Louis. It often seems to me that newspapers outside the market — like USA Today and The New York Times — present a more accurate picture of what is going on here.

The publisher of one local newspaper is planning to expand its coverage of the City. He hopes to add community development issues to his paper’s staple crop of sassy local and statewide political coverage, beefing up his publication with new reporters and staffers, additional pages, and new web features.

I endorse his efforts.

The City’s complex story — challenging finances, wonderful building stock, celebrated diversity, stable and rebuilding neighborhoods, growing population, new business confidence — is just too compelling to be ignored or dismissed.
