At 10 am today, Jefferson Barracks will open for a ceremony remembering the men and women, many of them with a family connection to St. Louis, who have died in military service.

There will be a procession and some speeches. Yesterday, local Scouts began decorating the cemetery’s graves with tiny flags.

Whatever your political bent or stripe, the sight of so many flags — more each year — should give you pause.
