There are plenty of times as mayor when I wish I could just flip a magic switch to make something good happen. And I have to tell you that are relatively few times when anything at City Hall is that easy.
Tomorrow, though, is one of those days.
Sometime after 4:30 pm, I’ll be at the amphitheatre in Kiener Plaza to flip the switch that turns on all of Downtown St. Louis’s Christmas decorations. The event, which will include music, fireworks, donuts, hot chocolate, a reading of the The Night Before Christmas, and a horse-drawn carriage with Santa, is formally known at the Macy’s Holiday Festival of Lights and it kicks off the Christmas Season in the City. Note the name Macy’s in the title: the new store’s first sponsorship of this event promises to be a first-class experience for all of us.
KMOV-TV will broadcast the lighting — and Thursday’s Ameren Mid America Holiday Parade — live.
About the parade on Thursday: There’s a new route. The whole thing steps off at 8:30 am on Thanksgiving morning at the intersection of 4th and Washington.
