An African proverb notes correctly that some of the hardest tasks in life require an entire village to accomplish. So, Trailnet, an advocacy group that takes its “promoting active living” motto to heart, is building one of its own.

The cities of De Soto and Ferguson and the City neighborhoods of Old North St. Louis and West End are partnering with Trailnet to create model “healthy and active communities.” Funded (in part) by the Missouri Foundation for Health, the new "village" of community, civic, and elected leaders has pledged to work with regional experts and each other to promote healthy activities — walking, biking, eating better, feeling better — for their residents.

The Helathy and Active Communities project is planning a kick-off event on Thursday, March 6, at the Regional Arts Commission. The details are at www.trailnet.org.

This is a great idea.
