Mayor Slay is in China. This blog is by Patrick Brown:
You may have heard of them by now. Mayor Slay's Vanguard Cabinet is coming together rather quickly with creative ideas on how we can make St. Louis the best City we can be. This dynamic regional group of 20 and 30 somethings hails from various educational, professional and cultural backgrounds that bring our City a fresh and diverse pallet from which we can begin to develop exciting new things for the City and the greater region.
Key to the success of any city's future is an educated and engaged class of people in their 20s and 30s. The City of St. Louis has seen a definitive population growth over the last 10 years and a recent study just showed that 70% of Americans born after 1980 want to live in an urban core.
This is great news right? And the Vanguard Cabinet is a testament to this. These driven and unequivocally energetic St. Louisans will someday be the leaders of our community. They are the entrepreneurs that will create jobs and spur innovation for our City. They recycle, bike to work and demand opportunities to give back to their communities. Most importantly, this group will someday start families here and with that in mind they want St. Louis to be the place where their little future artists, teachers, or professionals can grow and flourish.
No one is assuming that the Vanguard Cabinet has all of the answers. And it is clear that Baby Boomers and Gen. Y's see the world differently at times (this is actually a good thing). The idea here is to share those two points of view in a constructive way that ushers in established wisdom with creative energy and innovation and St. Louis comes out with a City that is bigger and better than any of us could have ever imagined.
St. Louis, we have excited days ahead!
