Mayor Slay is in China. This entry was submitted as a guest blog item by aldermanic president Lewis Reed:
The city of St. Louis is facing some serious budget challenges that will require difficult decisions by the members of the Board of Aldermen as well as the members of Estimate and Apportionment (E&A). As elected officials, we will be faced with the challenge of determining what can be cut or scaled down.
The ideas that have been put forward so far include changes and reductions to trash pickup, sidewalk repair, street cleaning, tree trimming as well as an examination of the Neighborhood Stabilization Office, Fire Department, Police Department, Forestry Division, as well as many others. Every part of the St. Louis city budget is being scrutinized and all options considered.
To help me, as well as other members of the Board of Aldermen, make these deeply crucial decisions, I have decided to host a series of public forums on the St. Louis budget. The forums which start tonight, March 23rd, will be held at three locations throughout the City.
Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church
5547 Dr. Martin Luther King Drive
St. Louis, MO 63112
7:00 ' 8:00pm
Saint Stephen Protomartyr Catholic Church
3949 Wilmington Avenue
St. Louis, MO 63116
7:00 ' 8:00pm
Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church
1444 South Compton
St. Louis, MO 63104
7:00 ' 8:00pm
It is my hope the public will offer their insight on how to address the challenges the city faces as well as ask questions regarding the budget. It is vital that city residents let their voice be heard on the things that affect their lives on a daily basis.
I hope I will see you this week.
