Mayor Slay is in China. This blog item is by Claire McCaskill:

Now that healthcare is passed:

There's been a lot of chatter about the health care reform bill signed by the president this week, and I think it's time to explain exactly what this new law means for Missouri. This year, important reforms will start helping Missouri families.

By the end of the year, tax credits will go to Missouri's small businesses to help provide benefits to their employees. 79,900 Missouri small businesses are eligible , and they employ 303,046 Missourians. After this year, 1.4 million Missouri children will get a guarantee: they'll never be denied coverage because of preexisting conditions. And nobody will ever get kicked off their insurance because they got sick.

There are more reforms coming in the next few years to bring down costs to families and reduce the deficit, but Missouri's families will see these benefits this year.

Read a Kaiser Family Foundation Report about the key benefits that Missouri families will see immediately.

And feel free to write me on my website about healthcare or any other issue.
