Mayor Slay is in China (as you will read below!). This was written as a guest blog item by St. Louis County Executive Charlie Dooley:
This week Mayor Slay is in China with my Senior Policy Advisor Mike Jones working on the Midwest-China Hub Project. It's just one of the many great collaborations between St. Louis City and County.
This China project has the potential to transform our region. Connecting St. Louis to the Far East is an opportunity for our region to play a key role in the global economy. It could open up new, rapidly growing markets to our local businesses. Plus, it holds the potential for a significant number of new jobs and shot in the arm for our overall economy.
Since we began our efforts to secure a China hub, I have learned many new things and even some Chinese wisdom. I now know that in Chinese, the symbol for crisis is also the symbol for opportunity. Let us take this crisis and create the opportunity to reposition our region for the global economy of the 21st Century.
Safe travels to Mayor Slay and the entire St. Louis delegation! I look forward to hearing about the great strides they made overseas when they return.
