Full House

We were just a home game at new Busch Stadium short of filling the City yesterday.

With my co-chairs and other officials, I led more than 65,000 participants in the nation’s largest Komen Race for the Cure. Racers showed up in wheelchairs and strollers, and on foot. They had pink hair, bunny ears, and flowered leis. I was particularly impressed with six members of the Army in uniform and gear (including full backpacks) who ran with the crowds. Bands, volunteers with water, spectators, family members, police officers, and motorcyclists lined the sunny parade route. Survivors - wearing pink shorts - were met at the finish and given pink and chartreuse long-stemmed roses. Kudos to Race organizers, to participants, and to all the survivors and their families and friends.

The Downtown Partnership’s Living Tour yesterday (and again today) brought thousands more people to see what is happening in this exploding City nabe. I know that they noticed and appreciated the beautiful flowers planted along Tucker and Market Streets, in Kiener Plaza, on the Serra sculpture grounds, and at City Hall - all part of an effort by an organization called Urban Roots.

Meanwhile, fans of the homegrown Circus Flora mingled happily with theater patrons in Midtown.

Not far away, the CWE was awash (literally, thanks to the rain) with visitors to the annual Art & Taste Festival, while W.O.W St. Louis. held a festival in Forest Park not far from Saturday’s scheduled performance of Julius Caesar.
