Flooding Not Predicted Here

News of flooding in other parts of Missouri has inspired a few telephone calls to City Hall asking about the likelihood of flooding here. I have spoken to our engineers and forecasters and they believe that — barring local monsoons next week or the week after — the Mississippi River will crest in St. Louis below flood levels. They will, however, be watching the river and the forecasts closely. (As an exercise, one of the City’s flood gates will be closed this week. That’s just for the practice.)

My prayers are with residents of southern Missouri who have been displaced by the flooding there.
