For many years, false alarms have created a big problem for St. Louis police officers. Responding to false alarms takes officers off of the streets and takes up time that could be spent on urgent calls. On the other hand, it is important that police respond when an alarm goes off because of a legitimate emergency.

The first-year results are encouraging. The new program reduced the number of false alarms by 28 percent.
