I support reforms in Missouri’s eminent domain legislation to protect responsible property owners.

However, eminent domain remains an essential redevelopment tool in the City’s continuing progress as we strive to eliminate problem properties. Losing that tool entirely would weaken the City’s ability to improve the quality of life for all of our residents.

There are certainly things in "Senate Substitute for Senate Committee Substitute for House Committee Substitute for House Bill No. 1944" that worry me. Overall, it will make it more difficult and more costly to carry out eminent domain proceedings in our City. Nevertheless, I understand that compromise is necessary.

I’m going to tell state senators that I support it.
