College Summit

College Summit is a national not-for-profit program that works to increase college enrollment by low-income students. The program was inspired by a former university administrator who noticed that many eligible students were being left out of college by admissions and recruiting practices that identified top-scoring students, regardless of socio-economic status, but neglected lower income students with mid-tier credentials. Without either recruiting by colleges or persuasion by high school administrators and teachers, these college-eligible students were not finding their way to higher education.

College Summit recently announced the results of a pilot program at Sumner High School. Of the 22 seniors enrolled in the College Summit class, 21 students have applied to colleges — and 16 have already been accepted to colleges.

College Summit is now working with the seniors at Vashon and Beaumont.
