I am happy to pass along word that St. Louis, by ordinance one of the country’s most dog-friendly cities, will show off its pedigree on January 27 as more than 80,000 revelers will gather to watch 8,000 or so dogs — most of them in costume, some of them in group costumes — parade through Soulard as the traditional start of the City’s annual Mardi Gras celebration. The dog parade will be followed by the Weiner Dog Derby. Canine winners will be awarded titles and prizes. All others will get pats.

Participating pooches must be registered — and the registration money will be donated to a local no-kill shelter.

Once again this year, the Police Department will be watching for cat-calling and other bad behavior.
