The Federal government has just announced new EPA grants to communities in 43 states, two Indian nations, and two US Commonwealths. Included in that amount are grants totaling $533,360 for projects in the City of St. Louis.
LRA will receive clean-up grants for projects at 121 Dock (the former Curly Collins recycling site near Produce Row), Delmar & Whittier (a former gas station site near corner), and 2848 N. Kingshighway (a former gas station site near St. Louis Ave and N. Kingshighway). SLDC will receive a grant to assess hazardous substances throughout the City.
The grants are part of the EPA’s Brownfields Program. They are aimed at converting environmentally hazardous eyesores back into productive properties, strengthening and revitalizing neighborhoods.
I want to congratulate the City development team, including Otis Williams and Chad Howell, that prepared the grant applications; and I want to thank the Congressional delegation for their supportive efforts.
