An op-ed in the local newspaper by three local university professors caught my concerned attention. It is an open letter to the US Army Corps of Engineers raising some questions the effect of new navigation structures built by the Corps in the Mississippi River channel. According to the scientists, these underwater walls could make annual floods much more dangerous - and expensive - along both sides of the river near St. Louis.
Chicken Littles or Cassandras? I am not an engineer, but the City has some good ones. I expect them to be talking to both the Corps and the academics this week.
