A supporter asked me last night why construction on Ballpark Village hasn’t started yet. The short answer is because I would not pledge tax dollars to back up the debt.

A story from the other side of the state vindicates my decision.

Kansas City guaranteed the debt on a similar development. Its city manager now says that KC taxpayers will have to spend 4 million dollars to make up for a shortfall in revenue. In these tough times, that will hurt.

I am still supportive of BPV. But, it must create jobs and generate revenue for needed city services.
