Board of Elections

The St. Louis Board of Elections has caused some long nights over the years. For the last several elections, however, the Board of Elections has been a model of efficient non-partisan operations.

I credit the improvement to the hard work of its professional staff, the cooperative direction of Democrat Matt Potter and Republican Scott Leiendecker, and the general oversight of its Board of Commissioners.

The Board's performance in Tuesday's election seemed a little more like the bad old days.

This does not mean that I give any credence whatsoever to the odd charges raised this week by an unsuccessful candidate for Congress, because I do not. Rather, I simply express the hope that the Commissioners can find their way back to rational decisions, publicly made.
