According to recent news reports, Gov. Matt Blunt has formed a committee charged with the task of making the state’s beef recognized throughout the world as a high quality product. The beef committee includes experts in every aspect of beef production, sales, and marketing.

“When people hear beef, they should think of Missouri,” the governor recently told industry leaders gathered at the State Fair in Sedalia. Missouri is home to 67,000 beef producers.

I like to think that this worthwhile effort is a trial run for a state campaign to make Missouri’s elementary and secondary education programs widely known for their quality. Missouri is home to almost 900,000 public school students who require an education with a world-class reputation.
