Appeals Court Finds For City's Decision

I appreciate the thorough opinion of the Court of Appeals and its recognition of the difficult decisions that the Public Safety Director and I had to make in order to move the Fire Department forward. It was important that long overdue promotions were made based on a promotional test the federal courts had held to be valid. There is a hierarchy in City government, and tough choices had to be made when the Chief would not follow the Director's order to make promotions. Today, the Court has upheld that hierarchy, the tough choices that we made, and the procedures we followed.

As the Court also noted, Chief George had a long and distinguished career with the St. Louis Fire Department, and I will continue to commend him for that.
