Getting rid of the dead wood is less of a problem in St. Louis than some naysayers assert.
We just give it away.
The City of St. Louis Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry offers free firewood to city residents starting Monday, Nov. 3 on the Lower Muny Opera parking lot in Forest Park. The wood is available after 3 p.m. each work day. All wood comes from the removal of dead, diseased and damaged trees from city streets and parks. The Department will generally not be able to honor a request for wood from a specific ex-tree.
Proof of residency is required. Those without such proof will be placed on a provisional wood request list.
