MoDOT crews will be unable to reopen westbound I-64 before Monday morning rush hour because more extensive roadway repairs were needed to the double deck structure than anticipated.
The closure was part of a resurfacing project for the double deck structure where crews remove a top layer of the driving surface, then use water pressure to prepare the roadway for resurfacing. Before the road is resurfaced, crews chip out and repair bad spots in the concrete. In this section of roadway, the bad spots were more extensive than anticipated.
Crews will remain working around the clock to get the road repaired and reopened. The department is planning to have the roadway reopened by Tuesday morning rush, but will make a final determination Monday morning.
To get into downtown Monday morning, commuters should use the McKinley, JB, MLK or Eads bridges or use Metro.
