I’ve been waiting for this weekend’s shows since the Live on the Levee lineup was announced.
Friday’s headliner, The Black Crowes, will be on stage at 7:30PM instead of the usual 8PM, which is perfect because live performances of their songs are a good eight minutes longer than the radio versions. You’ll recognize frontman Chris Robinson as one-time husband of Kate Hudson (Goldie Hawn’s actress daughter), and I’d be surprised if you haven’t heard their 1990 hit "She Talks to Angels." Their newest album (and first studio album in 7 years), Warpaint, has been a favorite of the critics. I can’t wait to hear it live.
Saturday’s main attraction, One Republic, has been around since 2002 but has gained mainstream attention since its 2007 breakthrough hit, "Apologize". The song has been remixed on producer/rapper/surefire-hit-maker Timbaland’s 2007 CD, and their newest single, "Say (All I need)" has been in heavy rotation on any top-40 radio station or as the soundtrack of any teen-angst TV shows. Even if you don’t know the name "One Republic", you’ve probably heard the songs.
Both bands will appear on the Budweiser Stage at 14th and Market streets. After each show, fireworks start at approximately 9:15. As always, concerts are free-ninety-nine.
