As Mayor Francis Slay is fond of pointing out, St. Louis is no stranger to the Sweet Science. Our community has long supported amateur boxing programs - such as the Golden Gloves, the City recreation boxing programs, and the Police Athletic League. The programs, in turn, have been important parts of the growing-up experience of thousands of young St. Louisans.
One of the City’s best loved boxing traditions is the annual “Guns N Hoses” tournament, which raises money for the St. Louis Backstoppers. This year, local firefighter and police pugilists will face off in 17 championship bouts on Wednesday, November 26, at Scottrade Center.
