MoDOT said the first day of the "eastern half closure/west half re-opening" went "smoother than expected." They did not say what they expected, but we will probably sleep better not knowing.

MoDOT, City, and county traffic engineers report that they made several adjustments to signals during the day along the major alternative routes to improve traffic flow - and cleared several accident scenes attributed to the icy road conditions.

City Director of Streets Todd Waeltermann urged commuters to find alternatives to the Forest Park Parkway. That road, he said, is already operating near its capacity, even on low traffic days.

Other hints: Traffic is light on Jefferson northbound, on Manchester, and on Page Avenue. Tucker, between I-44 and downtown, is busy; use I-44 to Lafayette to Truman, instead.
