The Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry is offering a full schedule of summer camps. All are free of charge. These camps are in addition to the day camps and soccer camps run by the Recreation Division.Art Camp - Come join the 5-Star After-School staff from 9 a.m. until noon Monday through Friday at picnic grounds 13 & 14 next to the Art Museum in Forest Park. The camp is open to all youth ages 8-15 who want to participate in eclectic and diverse art projects. Supplies are provided to all campers free of charge. Six weeks of camps are available to choose from between June 9 and July 25.
Tennis Camp - The City of St. Louis, with instructors from Just Us Tennis Foundation, will be offering a seven-week tennis camp full of skill building and games. Boys and girls ages 7-15 are invited to come learn and improve on skills like: serving, forehand strokes and the art of the backhand stroke. There will be two locations: Monday and Wednesday evenings in Fairground Park and Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Carondelet Park. Racquets and balls will be available for use on site. Camp will run from June 9 through July 31.
Soccer Camp - The City of St. Louis and the MidWest Soccer Academy are teaming up to provide youth ages 7-15 a series of summer soccer camps. The focus of the summer camp is to have fun while working towards a team concept through skillful and consistent instruction. The cost is FREE with a limited enrollment of 100 youth per week. All enrolled participants receive a free soccer ball. Four separate weeks of instruction will take place the weeks of June 16, June 23, July 7 and August 4. Camps will take place at Carondelet, Wilmore, Hyde and Gamble Parks respectively from 1 to 3 p.m. in June and 10 a.m. to 12 noon in July and August.
Golf Camp - Thirty kids age 9 to 18 can participate in a golf camp in Forest Park at the Triple A and Norman K. Probstein Golf Courses. The Golf Foundation of Missouri will be providing instruction with a highly qualified amateur and PGA professional staff. Camp will be a six-week session from 10 a.m. to noon, Mondays and Wednesdays from June 16 to July 23. Through the Sticks for Kids program, PRF will be providing 10 sets of golf clubs for participants to use during the program.
Basketball and Football Camp - Instructors from the Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation will be on hand to instruct boys and girls ages 8 -17 on offensive and defensive skills and strategies. Camps will last from 9 a.m. to 12 noon Monday through Friday. Camps will also include interactive 30-minute talks designed to discuss the development of character, academic and athletic values through goal setting.
Guest Speakers will include: Demetrious Johnson, Coach Cornell Ford from the University of Missouri football team, Coach Melvin Watkins from the University of Missouri basketball team and Coach Tracy Dildy of the University of Illinois - Chicago basketball team.Basketball Camp - This camp will accommodate up to 100 participants at the Wohl, Tandy and 12th and Park Recreation Centers during three weeks of instruction the weeks of June 16, July 14 and July 21.
Football Camp - This camp will accommodate up to 200 participants at Penrose, Benton and Fairground Park during three weeks of instruction the weeks of June 9, July 7 and July 21.
